Konza Technopolis’ Buffer Zone ‘Inter–County Physical & Land Use Development Plan [2023-2033]’

Konza Technopolis Buffer Zone: A Vision for Sustainable Growth

The Konza Technopolis Buffer Zone Development Plan (2023-2033) is a strategic initiative designed to foster sustainable and controlled growth around the burgeoning Konza Technopolis. Developed by the Inter County Joint Physical & Land Use Planning Committee (ICJPLUPC), this comprehensive plan provides a robust spatial framework to guide and regulate development within a 10-kilometer radius, encompassing parts of Machakos, Makueni, and Kajiado counties. It directly addresses the challenges of unplanned urbanization, land fragmentation, and environmental encroachment that have emerged due to increased land demand. The plan details significant infrastructure advancements in transport (including international and regional roads, a proposed Standard Gauge Railway link, and optimized air transport solutions), telecommunications (leveraging existing fiber optic networks and mobile coverage), water supply (from sources like Nol-Turesh, Oloitokitok, and the transformative Thwake Dam project), energy (with robust grid connections and renewable potential), and advanced waste management systems (featuring water reclamation and modern solid waste facilities). Overseen by the proposed Konza Buffer Management Board, this plan is set to transform the buffer zone into a well-regulated, economically dynamic, and environmentally responsible area, perfectly complementing the Konza Technopolis
